Next Destiny Update To Be More Colourblind-Friendly

Posted on March 20, 2015 at 3:34 pm

Bungie have revealed that the next update for popular game ‘Destiny’ will feature a colourblind mode. There are gamers that struggle to distinguish colours in the game, so colourblind mode is Bungie’s solution to the problem.

“You may not have trouble distinguishing the red blips on the motion tracker from the red surface of Mars, for example, but chances are you know someone who does. Our solution for this subset of our community is a proper ‘Colourblind Mode’ for Destiny. Adapting the existing user interface to support various colourblind modes turned out to be a fairly complex challenge. But we managed to build a flexible toolkit for our designers that helped them do just that with minimally-invasive surgery and no negative impact to existing functionality.” (Brad Fish, Bungie)

When the new update is ready, colourblind gamers will see a higher contrast level helping to differentiate colours.

Sega Slammed By Former CEO

Posted on February 24, 2015 at 11:48 am

Former CEO of Sega’s American division – Tom Kalinske, has slated former gaming giants Sega for it’s current state in the industry, claiming that the company has been making ‘wrong decisions’ for 20 years.

Discussing the relocation of Sega’s San Francisco offices, Kalinske said the following;

“It could have been avoided if they had made the right decisions going back literally 20 years ago. But they seem to have made the wrong decisions for 20 years. You have to really make a lot of mistakes to kill a strong brand. I do think some great brands obviously have been destroyed, Atari being one of them. Why didn’t that survive? I think there’s a lot of bad decision making involved in killing brands like that. I hope Sega isn’t the same thing.”

The scathing words will come as no surprise to gamers who grew up with Sega. How they managed to go from one of the biggest gaming companies to what they are now, makes absolutely no sense. Even Sonic can’t save them.

Borderlands Announced For PS4 And Xbox One

Posted on January 21, 2015 at 11:36 am

Good news for all Borderlands fans with current-gen consoles, as Borderlands: The Handsome Collection has just been announced for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The collection which is a bundle of Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, will contain improvements in performance and resolution, whilst also having a four-player split-screen co-op mode which they claim has never been seen on a console before.

If you have a version of the games on the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 or PlayStation Vita, then you will now have the opportunity to cross-save, meaning you can continue with your game on the newer platforms.

The collection will be available from March 27 in Europe, with it being discussed at PAX South this weekend.

Paparazzi Game Announced For PS4?

Posted on December 31, 2014 at 2:20 pm

Developer Pringo Dingo Games have announced their two-player multiplayer game – Paparazzi. A game where each player takes the role of either a celebrity or their enemy… the paparazzi. Original right?

“We initially made the game for a game jam centred with the theme of a Matthew McConaughey quote: ‘Cameras aren’t guns. They can’t really hurt you’. Pringo Dingo Games is a three person studio, and we are incredibly excited about how far we’ve brought the game since that jam.”

The game sounds absolutely horrible and something that would’ve worked back in the early 90’s with the 32-bit consoles. We can’t imagine many players playing this on their PS4 when it releases in the PlayStation Store February 2015.

EA Hint That Xbox One Sales Are Catching Up

Posted on November 25, 2014 at 11:58 am

According to an EA representative the Xbox One is catching up to the PlayStation 4 in terms of sales. EA’s Blake Jorgensen spoke about the ground that Microsoft have gained, saying;

“Clearly Sony has jumped out to a lead with a great console and I think a great pricing strategy, [but] Microsoft is catching up quickly. Pricing actions that are taking place, particularly during this Christmas season, driven by Microsoft, around reduction plus a lot of bundled software, I think will continue to pull the consumer into the new consoles.”

The Xbox One’s success this quarter is no surprise, with special bundles and price discounts leading to plenty of new sales. Compared to release date, the console itself has cut its price by £100.
