Multiplay is a division of the gaming retail giant, Game, that offers server hosting for multiplayer games. Their most notable customer is Titanfall 2. However, with Mike Ashley now owning a stake in the company, Game are beginning to cut costs. The first to fall is Multiplay, which is going to be sold off to a new buyer. This leaves employees of the company, and the games themselves, in a period of great uncertainty.
Game are claiming that they are still making good profits, despite their decision to sell of Multiplay. They have said that their revenue from it doubled to £4.5 million. However, they have said that the decision will leave them able to focus on other profitable avenues for them, like retail and their live eSports content. They are currently best known for their role in the gaming retail market, so it will be interesting to see how the eSports market progresses for them.
