It was bound to happen sooner or later, but the news is out and Microsoft are slowly catching up with Sony sales of the PS4, with their Xbox One.
“Coinciding with the release of these highly-rated exclusives and others like Madden NFL 16 and Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, Xbox One continued to gain momentum in August, with sales in the US up 26% over August 2014,” Xbox marketing executive Mike Nichols said in a statement.
“With more of the greatest games lineup in Xbox history, support for Xbox 360 games, the New Xbox One Experience system update in November alongside Xbox One Backward Compatibility and award-winning Xbox Elite Wireless Controller to follow this holiday, we’re excited to further build on this momentum in the months to come.” (Digital Spy)
With the massive price cuts of the Xbox One, and loads of console exclusives, it’s no surprise. We still do think that in the end, PS4 will come out victorious as there is a massive gap in sales to fill for the Xbox One.
Since the announcement of a new version of Shenmue in the works, the gaming world has been buzzing over what the new game will play like. Will it be just as good as the Dreamcast versions? Or is it nostalgia destined to fail?
According to some independent gaming shops, their sales of pre-owned SEGA Dreamcasts have increased ever since the announcement of Shenmue.
“Sega has really lost out on a load of digital sales by not releasing HD versions, so naturally indies like myself are the only place that would satisfy that itch to get back into these titles. Dreamcast sales have come from nowhere almost. What’s exciting now is that young gamers who perhaps didn’t even know what the Dreamcast was are interested in it.” (David Turvey, Retrobution)
Sad for Nintendo Wii U owners, as the Japanese giants have announced that they are discontinuing the Nintendo TVii service on the console by the end of August 11th.
“After almost 3 years of finding, watching and engaging with Nintendo TVii, we will be ending the service on August 11, 2015 at 3:00pm PT. At the same time, we will be closing the Nintendo TVii Miiverse community.
We sincerely thank you for all of your engagement within the community and the Nintendo TVii service. We look forward to your contributions within our many other Miiverse communities. We are deeply thankful for all of the engagement and excitement our users have generated and enjoyed while using the service.
Even though the interactive, second-screen experience of Nintendo TVii will be winding down, you can continue to watch your favourite shows and movies through the multiple Video on Demand applications on the Wii U console.” (Nintendo)
Popular fighting game Mortal Kombat X has received a new patch update. Patch 1.02 which has been available to download since this weekend, has introduced brand new skins and also minor gameplay changes.
Below are a list of changes:
- General – Throws (regular or command grabs) will no longer sometimes connect on a grounded reacting opponent off a counter hit.
- Shinnok (Impostor) – He can now control the location of a stolen Goro Stomp.
- Subzero (Grandmaster) – Combos on a grounded opponent frozen by the Ice Klone will now scale properly.
- Takeda (Ronin) – Added a new move “Quick Kall” (Down, Towards, Front Punch) which quickly returns a dropped blade without doing an attack.
- Takeda (Shirai Ryu) – He will now always teleport to the other side when doing the Air Shirai Ryu Port.
The game which was released last week had a massive launch, with the franchise claiming it was the biggest in its history. This is even though it only released in 3 formats: PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are scheduled for a Summer release.
Bungie have revealed that the next update for popular game ‘Destiny’ will feature a colourblind mode. There are gamers that struggle to distinguish colours in the game, so colourblind mode is Bungie’s solution to the problem.
“You may not have trouble distinguishing the red blips on the motion tracker from the red surface of Mars, for example, but chances are you know someone who does. Our solution for this subset of our community is a proper ‘Colourblind Mode’ for Destiny. Adapting the existing user interface to support various colourblind modes turned out to be a fairly complex challenge. But we managed to build a flexible toolkit for our designers that helped them do just that with minimally-invasive surgery and no negative impact to existing functionality.” (Brad Fish, Bungie)
When the new update is ready, colourblind gamers will see a higher contrast level helping to differentiate colours.
